Propaganda Overdrive: China Blames the U.S. for COVID

In a bold reversal of the facts, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has once again accused the United States of being the true origin of COVID-19. In a newly released white paper, Beijing insists that “substantial evidence” suggests the virus began circulating in the U.S. before the outbreak in China and says the U.S. is merely trying to “shift the blame.”

This move comes just weeks after President Trump’s administration formally updated the White House website to state that “a lab-related incident involving gain-of-function research is the most likely origin of COVID-19.” That statement echoed what multiple U.S. intelligence agencies, including the CIA and FBI, have concluded with varying degrees of confidence: that the virus likely leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

But rather than address that growing mountain of evidence, China is now playing defense by going on the offensive.

Propaganda 101: Accuse Others of What You’re Doing

The CCP’s sudden shift to blaming the United States fits a classic pattern outlined in Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals—a strategy manual often referenced in political warfare. Rule #13 is simple: accuse your opponent of exactly what you are doing. It’s not a new tactic for Beijing, but it’s one that is particularly audacious given the weight of global scientific consensus and the pattern of suppression, censorship, and deception that marked China’s handling of the virus from day one.

What Is China Claiming?

In its white paper, Beijing makes several claims:

  • That COVID-19 may have originated in the United States.
  • That the virus was circulating in the U.S. earlier than officially reported.
  • That the Wuhan lab leak theory is “extremely unlikely.”
  • That the United States should be investigated next.

They cite Red Cross blood samples, old U.S. lab violations, and even cold-chain packaging as possible transmission vectors—ignoring the fact that none of these have resulted in outbreaks anywhere else in the world.

What Evidence Actually Exists?

There is no credible scientific or epidemiological evidence that COVID-19 began in the U.S. Most experts agree the outbreak began in Wuhan in late 2019. The virus’ genetic makeup, geographic origin, and epidemiological history all point to Wuhan—not Detroit or Des Moines.

China’s attempts to muddy the waters ignore critical facts:

  • Over 80,000 animal samples in China showed no sign of a precursor virus.
  • Chinese labs, especially the Wuhan Institute of Virology, were known to conduct gain-of-function research on coronaviruses.
  • Several WIV researchers reportedly fell ill with COVID-like symptoms in late 2019.
  • China scrubbed databases, silenced whistleblowers, and delayed international investigations for months.
  • The first known COVID cases were concentrated around the Huanan Seafood Market in Wuhan, not anywhere in the U.S.

Even the World Health Organization’s own investigation into the origins of the virus was restricted by China and heavily criticized for being politically compromised.

What’s Really Going On?

This isn’t about science. It’s about optics and accountability. China is attempting to rewrite history to escape responsibility for a global pandemic that has killed millions, devastated economies, and upended life around the world.

Beijing’s accusations are a desperate attempt to distract from its own failures and abuses:

  • It allowed international travel out of Wuhan even while locking down the city domestically.
  • It censored early warnings by doctors.
  • It continues to deny access to critical lab records and data.

In contrast, even when U.S. labs have had safety incidents—such as at Fort Detrick—they have been publicly reported, investigated, and covered in the media. That kind of transparency simply doesn’t exist in China.

President Trump’s administration has made it clear that holding China accountable is no longer optional. The recent White House update signals a firm stance against propaganda campaigns and a renewed commitment to uncovering the full truth. While the CIA still hedges its bets with “low confidence” in a definitive lab origin, more and more federal agencies and international experts are aligning behind the lab leak theory.

And it’s not just science that is pushing the truth forward—it’s the facts, the pattern of behavior, and the evidence of a global cover-up that make China’s claims absurd on their face.

China’s accusation that COVID-19 originated in the United States is not based on science. It’s a propaganda tactic, pure and simple. The CCP is trying to deflect blame, avoid accountability, and confuse the global public just long enough to escape judgment.

But this time, the world is watching—and the muddy water is beginning to clear.
